It’s April, so even though it doesn’t feel that way every day, Spring is here, and summer is coming. And that means outdoor entertaining is just around the corner. Have you thought about adding a deck?
Deck installation is one of our favorite home additions at T+H. During the warmer parts of the year, we typically have a weekly post on our Facebook featuring a deck of the week! Why all this love for adding a deck?
Adding a Deck Means Enjoying Your Home
Decks bring a high ROI, both monetarily and possibly more importantly, for your enjoyment of your home.
Psychologists and physicians agree that time outdoors is good for your mental and physical health. Having a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy your yard makes you likelier to take time outside.
When you create a habit or a ritual of sitting outside, you can observe your yard and your environment as it changes throughout the seasons and the year. That means that unlike some other items, even some renovations, you’re less likely to begin taking your deck for granted as you get used to it.
Finally, if you have a beautiful outdoor living space, you’re more likely to hold gatherings at your home, so you’ll enjoy it in new ways with new people all the time. That’s a lot of joy from one home addition.
A new deck is like making a lifestyle change.
Every Deck Is Different
Here’s another reason we love building a new deck: every deck is different!
Like everything in your home, your deck can be an opportunity to reflect your individual style and what you and your family value. With different materials, styles, treatures, and structures, you can create a deck that’s truly you!
Materials
The classic deck is typically wooden, but today, there are other options available to you. Many clients like to use manufactured decking made from plastic like Trex.
The appeal of manufactured decking is its longevity. You practically never need to replace it! But wooden decks are still a valid option. They just take a little more upkeep – resealing, painting, etc.
Style + Structure
Since we build custom decks, a deck install starts with a conversation about what you want out of your deck.
In its simplest form, a deck is a wooden floor and a railing, but you might like to add screens or shade for a 3-season room or even make your deck multi-level.
If you can dream it, we can build it.
Features
Features are where we get into the really fun stuff!
There are many features to add to your deck to bring it to the next level. Which ones are right for you will depend on your lifestyle, but a few favorites are lighting, water elements, shades, built-in seating, grill and outdoor seating, fire pits, and any aesthetic flourish you could imagine!
There are so many ways to add to your deck that we’ll devote an upcoming blog to outdoor living space features. Be sure to come back if you’re looking for ideas!
Deck the Decks?
If you’re considering adding a deck to your home, T & H would love to have a conversation with you! We’ll take the time to get to know what you’d like, give you our suggestions, and then come up with a proposal to add the deck of your dreams.
What starts with a phone call ends with a new outdoor living space.
